история группы с оф.сайта
By 1987 SUBWAY had already been formed in Balingen, Germany more than ten years previously. From the very outset it was the aim of the young musicians to harmonise not only musically but also more particularly as friends.
During the first two years they composed and rehearsed intensively until the group was at last ready to appear live for the first time in 1988. As a result of the many subsequent appearances both at home and abroad, they quickly acquired a good reputation as a live band.
The next stage was to make the first demonstration recording and to send it to a record company, but the desired response was not at first achieved. That was however soon to change as a result of a chance meeting with FERNANDO CARCIA (VICTORY). With Fernando as producer, a new demo was cut in Switzerland and then an CD was made out of their own resources.
The live appearances were intensified and at last the record industry showed an interest in SUBWAY.
The then recently founded label GSE RECORDS in Offenbach, released HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAMS as a CD in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and in the neighbouring countries, which sold particularly well in their native Germany. As a result of this success SUBWAY became known outside Europe’s borders and could, for example, find a place in Japan’s import chart, resulting in HOLD ON TO YOUR DREAMS being regularly played in Japan. There the CD stayed a few weeks in the charts and shortly afterwards was also released in Korea.
After more than 20 open air festivals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the summer of 1993, as well as more than 50 further concerts in clubs and halls (with among others, SINNER, MANFRED MANNS EARTH BAND, JEFF HEALEY, CHINA, STAN BUSH, MAMA´S BOYS, BOB GELDOF) SUBWAY toured Europe in October 1993 with TALISMAN and again for a few weeks in Germany together with AXXIS.
In January 1994 SUBWAY moved to distant Los Angeles in order to record their second album TASTE THE DIFFERNCE with producer MIKEY DAVIS (WASP, KISS, KEEL, VINNIE VINCENT). Here immediately on beginning the recording they were surprised by one of the most severe earthquakes in California´s history, but fortunately did not suffer any serious injury.
The experience gained in the last few years and the further development of the band are clearly evident in the new songs. Harder, more aggressive and musically speaking, more professional than with their debut album, SUBWAY now presents itself in new clothing but still however, remaining true to its typical style.
The inevitable happened. Because of the ever-growing pressure on their time through concerts, tours, recording dates and promotions, the SUBWAY musicians found it no longer possible to keep up a regular job alongside the music. Decisions had to be made. HENRY SAUTER, BEMY BITZER and MARTIN ARNOLD all decided to give up their work and go professional, which was just what they had been struggling years for. The other members of the group however decided on the more safer course and gave up making music.
Up to the middle of 1995 the search for new kindred spirits proved extremely difficult, but finally, the right people were found from the numerous applications for the vacant places. FRANCIS SOTO and BJOERN HODLER have both already collected experience in various bands and projects and have now found their new home in SUBWAY.
SUBWAY are off again to re-conquer the universe (preferably all its stages). The new CD was released in Japan on the 25th February. The release took place in Switzerland on 6th April 1998 and the rest of the world will follow. DONÕT MISS IT.
